Journal of Applied Meteorological Science (JAMS) started its first publication in 1986 as an academic journal in atmospheric sciences, superintended by China Meteorological Administration and co-sponsored by Chinese Academy of Meteorological Sciences, China National Meteorological Center, China National Satellite Meteorological Center, China National Climate Center, China National Meteorological Information Center, and CMA Meteorological Observation Center.

Over the past years, the Journal has been committed to publish the applications of new theories and techniques in meteorological science, with focus on frontier research topics and socioeconomic-related problems. The Journal aims at combining theories with practice in an effort to advance the progress of the meteorological science in China and abroad. The Journal reports the latest research articles, data, methods in the field of atmospheric sciences.

The publishing scope includes meteorological forecast, satellite meteorology, agricultural meteorology, marine meteorology, aviation meteorology, environmental meteorology, weather modification, applied climate studies, atmospheric detection, remote sensing technology, and computer application technology, etc. The Journal also publishes research articles and information on the application of new theories and new technologies to meteorology, both domestically and internationally.

The columns mainly include articles, short contributions, reviews, operational systems, forums, bulletins, publication comments, etc.

The Journal is indexed in Scopus, China Scientific and Technical Periodical Abstracts (CSTA), Meteorological & Geo-astrophysical Abstracts (MGA) by American Meteorological Society, Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) and Chinese Science Abstracts (English Edition), and are also included in Chinese Academic Journal (CD-ROM), Wanfang Data, and CQVIP.

The Journal does not publish commercial advertisement for now.
