Determination of the Earth Surface Type by Using the AVHRR Data From NOAA

A method of determining the type daylight scene viewed by each resolution element of AVHRR is presented. The specification of the scene types is restricted to five categories: cloud, vegetation, non-vegetation land, ice/snow and water. The routine processing range is 10°—60°N, 75°—150°E.
